CareersPortal.ie was developed by Durrow Communications Ltd as a direct response to a report generated by the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs (EGFSN) in 2007, which recommended that Ireland develop a central career guidance portal. The site was officially launched by the Minister for Education and Science in April 2008.

The site has become an integral tool for guidance professionals throughout the country. It is supported by both public and private organisations, who partner with us in order to help disseminate the most useful and update information about careers and courses across all sectors of the economy. The CareersPortal.ie website and guidance resources has grown hugely, both in content, and in its user base since its launch in 2008 and is now receiving over 4 million-page impressions a month.

Who we are To top

CareersPortal are a core team of 10 specialists coming from a broad range of educational and industry backgrounds, including areas such as psychology, guidance counselling and human resources. We have many years’ experience working in schools, adult and community development and in career services. We also have an Advisory Group made up of Guidance Counsellors from both 2nd level and the adult guidance services who work across the country and who feed directly into the development of both the website and into our 2 guidance programmes.

The CareersPortal offices are located in Blackrock, Co. Dublin. We also have a regional office in Naas, Co. Kildare.

Since 2008, CareersPortal.ie has been working closely with guidance counsellors to provide the most up-to-date career tools and resources to support informed career and educational research. Partnering with key stakeholders including employers, state bodies and education providers has been central in ensuring information is current and reflects emerging employment and educational opportunities for people of all ages.

Our partners range from national advisory bodies and authorities, professional membership or representative bodies, government agencies, key public and private organisations, educational providers across the framework and government departments.

Each partner provides valuable information for anyone who is interested in exploring the various career and educational opportunities in a particular career area. They help to raise awareness of opportunities within the sector for students, career seekers, guidance counsellors and parents, who may not otherwise have access to, or knowledge of, the full extent of opportunities in that sector.

Partners outline educational pathways and provide occupational videos and interviews. They highlight skills shortages and jobs that are currently in demand. They feed directly into news stories, articles and sector and guidance events.

The core tools and resources form CareersPortal are also available through the medium of Irish on SaolOibre.ie. This resource allows users who are studying or working through the medium of Irish receive all the information on career sectors, occupations, labour market information and self-assessments exercises through the Irish Language.

This site continues to develop and offer new resources and supports annually.

Our Bespoke Guidance Programmes  To top

CareersPortal provide two bespoke resources available for guidance practice. Both of these innovative guidance programmes have been developed in collaboration with guidance professionals working across the sectors.

Reach+

The REACH+ programme has been designed to facilitate the delivery of Career and Educational Guidance in Senior Cycle and is now available for private practice. The programme covers five core areas:

• Career Planning
• Self-Assessment
• Study Skills
• World of Work
• World of Education

MyFuture+

MyFuture+ is a newly developed career learning, development and management tool for Adults. It supports guidance practitioners to work with their clients to learn about themselves in relation to career and education and access available options.

Individuals can access their unique career file from any mobile device. Guidance Practitioners can then view and track their clients career information instantly. This encourages a more collaborative approach between guidance counsellor and client through the provision of an integrated on-line career file.

The National CareerSkills Competition  To top

Senior Cycle students in 2nd level and Adult Learners undertaking Level 3, 4, 5 and 6 work experience modules complete a career investigation which is linked to their work experience placement.

Nationwide Training & Support To top

The provision of training and support underpins all of our programmes. CareersPortal have provided training to 1000's of guidance professionals, educators, adult learners and job seekers over the last 11 years. Each workshop is tailored to the needs of the participants.

• Second level Guidance Counsellors, Principals, LCVP teachers and TY coordinators in schools around the country
• Adult Guidance Counsellors/Practitioners, including FET Work Experience teachers, Youthreach, CTC's, LES, Jobs clubs, HSE, Prison and Probation Staff, DSP Case officers etc. This includes training on the best use of the site, CV and best practice recruitment and selection practices.
• Third Level undergraduate and postgraduate students in courses including the DCU and Maynooth University Certificate, Post-Graduate Diploma and Masters Programmes for Guidance Counsellors.
• Job seekers at careers fairs, jobs clubs and recruitment events.
• Adult Learners in adult and community education and support centres.

One-to-One Guidance Service To top

CareersPortal provides a professional guidance counselling service for students and adults who would like support in making career, educational and/or employment decisions. This service is of particular benefit to career changers, jobseekers, students and those looking to explore their career and education options.
