The candidate needs to have a desire to travel. That is the most important. Travel is a vital part of the role of Internal Auditor at CRH. Your travel percentage ranges between 40% - 70% per year. They do try to keep it at a minimum but with a high staff turnover, you could be placed on additional audits that are short staffed.

You need to get on with all the people you work with also as you're away with these people for 4 nights a week for 4 weeks. You need to be friendly and outgoing and easy to get along with as it can get stressful on jobs so the last thing you want is someone who has attitude problems or can't communicate properly! Those 2 aspects are the most important for me.

Administrative 
Administrative people are interested in work that offers security and a sense of being part of a larger process. They may be at their best operating under supervisors who give clear guidelines, and performing routine tasks in a methodical and reliable way.

They tend to enjoy clerical and most forms of office work, where they perform essential administrative duties. They often form the backbone of large and small organisations alike. They may enjoy being in charge of office filing systems, and using computers and other office equipment to keep things running smoothly. They usually like routine work hours and prefer comfortable indoor workplaces.

Pathways To Work

Research indicates that there is a strong link between unemployment and educational attainment. The Irish government recognises the importance of education for both individuals and society. The Back To Education Programmes were introduced to provide a comprehensive range of options from which an unemployed person can choose, or be directed to, depending on the most appropriate option for his/her needs.

If you are unemployed, or simply want to further your education, there is likely to be a government scheme that will help you financially to do a course that you are interested in.

Skillstowork.ie is a new Irish Government jobs campaign, aimed at making it easier for jobseekers and employers to know what Government skills initiatives are available to them.

If you are interested in training or reskilling, you can complete a quick and easy questionnaire to find out which of five Government skills initiatives - Springboard, JobBridge, JobsPlus and Skillnets best suits you.

Did you know ...

Springboard+ offers free places on over 280 courses leading to awards at certificate, degree and post-graduate level. Springboard+ is primarily targeted at jobseekers with a previous history of employment, but not exclusively. There are also a range of Level 8 ICT skills conversion courses available leading to qualifications for enterprise sectors which are growing and need skilled personnel, including information and communications technology (ICT); manufacturing; international financial services; and key skills for enterprise to trade internationally.

Qualifications are also available in cross-enterprise skills such as innovation, enterprise/entrepreneurship, digital marketing, and project management.

As a new recruit I still have the whole career ahead of me and I hope to be able to undertake as much training as possible. In particular I’d like to do a driving and specialist interviewer’s courses.
