Many will seek out positions where there is direct contact with the public in some advisory role, whether a receptionist or a counsellor. Social people are motivated by an interest in different types of people and like diversity in their work environments. Many are drawn towards careers in the caring professions and social welfare area, whilst others prefer teaching and other 'informing' roles.

In Summary

The IFS Apprenticeship programme is designed for career movers/career changers who wish to reskill/upskill in a relevant IFS programme and role.

This programme seeks to provide the appropriate education and training to allow successful graduates be registered with SOLAS as an IFS Specialist. What this means is that through a combination of off-the-job and on-the-job learning, apprentices will develop skills that are key to working in an analytics role in International Financial Services.

This programme is a 2-year apprenticeship aimed at graduates or mature applicants who wish to follow a career in financial services. Learners will be employed by Financial Services companies. Learning will take place within that company and the learner will also attend NCI or other education provider over the academic year. Learners will follow three themes in the programme around technology, finance and analytics. Taking modules in Data Programming, Financial Markets, Statistics for Finance, Data Management and Data Mining and Machine Learning. The programme leads to a level 8 professional award Higher Diploma in Financial Services Analytics awarded by QQI.

This programme is structured over two calendar years. Off-the-job modules run three 12-week semesters per academic year (September - August), while on-the -job modules are structured to run over the length of each academic year. Assessment of off-the-job modules comprises a combination of continuous assessment and exams. On-the-job assessment is via an ongoing electronic portfolio of work-based evidence that is submitted in year 1 and in year 2.

The IFS Specialist apprenticeship is aimed at those who have work experience and relevant educational qualifications. 

Entrants will study a Level 8 Higher Diploma in Financial Services Analytics whilst earning a salary of €32K, with a two year fixed term contract in an IFS organisation in a relevant role.

Entry Requirements

Before applying to this apprenticeship, please check that you meet all entry requirements. 

The IFS Specialist apprenticeship is aimed at those who have work experience and relevant educational qualifications. 

Minimum Academic Requirements

Learners graduating with a 2.2 honours degree at level 8 in any discipline are eligible to apply for this programme. Non-standard applications will be also considered on an individual basis.

As this is an Apprenticeship programme, participation on the programme is contingent upon the apprentice being offered an Apprenticeship role with an employer participating in the Apprenticeship scheme

Holders of technical, numerate degrees are likely to gain a higher ranking in any order of merit for admission. Typically, these would be applicants who have gained a minimum of a Level 8 qualification in a numerate discipline. Typical disciplines which would fall into this category would be:

  • Engineering
  • Architecture
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Economics Candidates who have achieved a minimum of a Level 8 qualification in a programme with a significant IT component and/or significant numerate element. Such programmes vary greatly in mathematical and information technology content and assessment would be by detailed examination of subject content, assessments and syllabi. Typical programmes which would fall into this category could include:
  • Management Information Systems
  • Accounting
  • Marketing
  • Management

Given the target technical market for graduates of this programme, candidates will be required to demonstrate technical or mathematical problem solving skills as part of previous programme learning. Graduates from disciplines which do not have technical or mathematical problem solving skills embedded in their programme will need to be able to demonstrate technical or mathematical problem solving skills in addition to their level 8 programme qualifications (Certifications, Additional Qualifications, Certified Experience and Assessment Tests).

Training

The IFS apprenticeships are 2-years in duration. The apprentices spend 80% of their time working in IFS companies and the remainder gaining specific IFS qualifications. 

This programme is structured over two calendar years. Off-the-job modules run three 12-week semesters per academic year (September - August), while on-the-job modules are structured to run over the length of each academic year. Assessment of off-the-job modules comprises a combination of continuous assessment and exams.

On-the-job assessment is via an ongoing electronic portfolio of work-based evidence that is submitted in year 1 and in year 2.

IFS Specialist Apprentices will graduate with a Higher Diploma in Financial Services Analytics at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).

Work Activities

IFS Specialist Apprentices will work four days per week in their company and study for the remaining one day per week in NCI over a two year period.

An IFS Specialist Apprentice will get you:

  • A two year fixed term contract in an International Financial Services (IFS) Organisation
  • A paid apprenticeship while you work and study
  • A recognised qualification in the National College of Ireland's state of the art campus in the IFSC
  • A Higher Diploma in Data Analytics or Fintech
  • A two year fixed term contract in an IFS organisation in a relevant role

All applications are reviewed by the education provider to ensure candidates have the relevant academic qualifications.

Candidates with relevant academic qualifications are invited to a pre-screening interview

Employer selection events - selected candidates will commence in-company recruitment process

Successful candidates will receive a two year fixed term contract, commence academic apprenticeship programme. APPRENTICES WILL PAY AN ANNUAL REGISTRATION FEE ON COMMENCEMENT TO THE ACADEMIC PROVIDER

Applications will be reviewed based on relevant academic qualifications. Successful applicants will be invited to a pre-selection event to be interviewed by a selection panel. Successful applicants from the pre-selection event will then meet with recruiting companies.

Pay & Fees

IFS apprentices are paid in excess of the national minimum wage and receive training and education valued in excess of €10k. Salaries range from  €23k  to  €32k  depending on the level of IFS Apprenticeship undertaken. Successful candidates will pay an annual registration fee to the academic provider. Registration fee for IFS Associate level is €600 per year. Registration fee for IFS Specialist level is €1000 per year.
