Work hard, it is important to have a good work ethic and to always be open to facing new challenges. An open mind is very important as the financial services industry is one that has undergone and will continue to undergo many changes. An appetite for learning is also very important as the need to broaden ones knowledge is paramount.

Enterprising
Enterprising people like situations that involve using resources for personal or corporate economic gain. Such people may have an opportunistic frame of mind, and like commerce, trade and making deals. Some are drawn to sales and marketing occupations. Many will eventually end up owning their own business, or managing a section in larger organisations. They tend to be very goal-oriented, and work best when focused on a target. Some have an entrepreneurial inclination.

Dr. John Spillane Construction Management

Dr. John Spillane is currently lecturer in the School of Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast; specialising in Construction Management. As founder and programme director for a new MSc titled “Building Information Modelling Project Management”, this provides an apt opportunity to apply knowledge gained from extensive industry orientated research into academic teaching in class.

Having successfully completed a Diploma, a BSc (Hons), an MSc and PhD, this complements teaching, particularly on both the MSc in Building Information Modelling Project Management and the MSc in Construction & Project Management. With extensive industry experience as a project manager working on a wide variety of projects, both in Ireland and the UK, a broad and in-depth level of industry experience has been attained.

As a chartered member of the CIOB and full member of the APM, links between industry and academic partners are maintained and utilised with the view of aiding further development of the built environment.

As an active researcher, who continues to publish in high quality peer-reviewed journal and conference papers on a wide variety of subjects including confined site construction, building information modelling (BIM), material management, personnel management, dispute resolution, expatriate assignment and disaster management; further disseminating key findings throughout the construction sector.
