National College of Ireland's Careers Service was announced last Thursday as the winner of the AHECS Employability award for Career Services with more than 5 staff. NCI was competing against submissions from a number of universities and institutes of technology including DCU, NUI Galway, TCD, UCC, CIT, WIT, Athlone and Carlow Institutes of Technology. This was a fantastic endorsement of the work of the NCI Careers Service under Caroline Kennedy as it was the first time NCI was eligible to compete in this category.
The title of NCI’s submission for the Employability Award was ‘Breaking barriers and building networks through personalised, outcome-focused career initiatives and employer and academic collaboration.’ In partnership with over 30 employers, the NCI careers team developed a targeted, personalised and outcome focused career provision for undergraduates. Students received personalised feedback from employers which contributed to strong results in the First Destination Survey (88 unemployment, 86% in graduate level roles)
The award was made based the innovative approach to supporting student/ employer engagement.
