This is an opportunity for students who want to win a trip to the Netherlands to visit HZ University of Applied Sciences and the world-famous Storm Surge Barrieron the Eastern-Scheldt. All they need to do is take part in this civil engineering project with their Science class by building their own coastal defence.
Coastal defence? What’s that you may ask yourself? Well, the largest part of the Netherlands lies below sea level, so they need to defend its coasts with embankments. As sea levels are rising and storms are becoming more powerful, lots of countries are now threatened by floods. We’ve seen the devastating pictures in the news. Ireland will not be spared, so you’d better be prepared.
So what do you have to do? Well , just design a coastal defence together with your classmates and your science teacher! Its simpler than it seems.
