Welcome to the Guidance & Counselling Department of Maria Immaculata Community College, Dunmanway,  Co.Cork.

The Guidance Counsellor is an integral part of the pastoral care system in the school and the Guidance & Counselling Department aims to meet the personal, educational and vocational/career needs of students as they arise.

Guidance is offered as a whole school activity by all staff. The guidance service offered to students and parents begins before students enter the school as part of the Induction Programme for incoming 1st year students. The service continues throughout the journey that students take up to 6th year and beyond.

  • Guidance is provided to students that require personal support at various times during their time in school. This service is operated in conjunction with Elaine O' Sullivan, Chaplain.
  • Guidance is offered to students through educational support such as study skills, motivation, setting goals, senior cycle options, subject choice, course choice and HEAR/DAREapplications.
  • Guidance is provided to students through career/vocational support such as the provision of information sessions about progression routes after the Leaving Certificate, employment opportunities awareness, decision making skills and other career information management. Links are maintained with local industries, most notably Carbery Group through the Business in the Community Programme.
Guidance Counselling is viewed as a process - not as an event - which begins with the students entry into first year and continues right throughout the six years spent in MICC and beyond.
