Realist

Realists are usually interested in 'things' - such as buildings, mechanics, equipment, tools, electronics etc. Their primary focus is dealing with these - as in building, fixing, operating or designing them. Involvement in these areas leads to high manual skills, or a fine aptitude for practical design - as found in the various forms of engineering.

Realists like to find practical solutions to problems using tools, technology and skilled work. Realists usually prefer to be active in their work environment, often do most of their work alone, and enjoy taking decisive action with a minimum amount of discussion and paperwork.

Your Graduate Career

To find out if the ESB Graduate Programme is for you, hear what our current graduates have to say about the programme.

Matthew McClean, Engineering Graduate

The ESB Graduate Programme has really helped my transition from college to work life. It’s given me the opportunity to gain valuable civil engineering experience on various projects in Ireland and the UK. The work has been challenging but through the support network provided by mentors and colleagues it has allowed me to develop. The friendly atmosphere within ESB is evident from the first day, and with social graduate events and company-wide events such as the ESB GAA 7s and the ESB Power Challenge, it was easy to meet people from all parts of the company.

Maeve Coll, HR Graduate

Since joining the ESB HR Graduate Programme in 2017 I have gained invaluable work experience in different areas of the organisation such as working on large scale recruitment campaigns. Graduates receive lots of support throughout their time on the programme including graduate training and assigned mentors.  The programme also has a great social aspect. I have taken part in sports events such as TAG Rugby, the GAA 7’s tournament and the ESB Power Challenge and CSR initiatives including the Time to Read and Time to Count programmes.

George Dosumu, IT Graduate

I’m currently on my second rotation on the ESB IT Graduate Development Programme. My first rotation was on the Cloud Platform team and I’m now working on the CyberSecurity team on various domains to improve the security maturity of the company.

What’s surprised me the most since I joined ESB is the range of opportunities available. You get to work alongside experts on key business activities which provides a high level of exposure for career and personal development. I also really enjoy the multi-cultural and friendly working environment.

If you’re keen to find out more about joining the ESB Graduate Development Programme please visit our website at www.esb.ie/careers/graduates and apply before 12pm on Friday 25th October.
