Social?
Social
The Social person's interests focus on some aspect of those people in their environment. In all cases the social person enjoys the personal contact of other people in preference to the impersonal dealings with things, data and ideas found in other groups.

Many will seek out positions where there is direct contact with the public in some advisory role, whether a receptionist or a counsellor. Social people are motivated by an interest in different types of people, and like diversity in their work environments. Many are drawn towards careers in the caring professions and social welfare area, whilst others prefer teaching and other 'informing' roles.

Final Closing Date for CAO Looms

CAO Change of Mind Facility Closes 1st July

Final Closing Date for CAO Looms

The CAO change of mind facility remains open until Sunday 1st July 2018. Leaving Cert students can avail of the facility until 5:15 pm on that day.

During the time that remains, applicants have the opportunity to change their course choices online, free of charge. There is no fee for using the Change of Mind facility.

Making Changes

  • Subject to certain exceptions and restrictions, students may change course choices as often as they wish, up until the closing date.
  • If you submit a Change of Mind, it cancels and supersedes all previous course choices in any category in which changes are made.
  • Course choices in both categories (Level 8 and Level 7/6) are considered to be completely separate from each other for the purpose of Change of Mind e.g. a change of Level 8 course choices will not affect Level 7/6 choices. If you do not wish to change the courses in one category, do not submit a change. Your original courses in that category will remain unchanged.
  • Do not mix courses from different categories (Level 8 and Level 7/6).
  • Make sure to list all of your course choices for the particular category which you change.
  • List your course choices in genuine order of preference.

Research Research Research!

When making course choices and changes, it is always advisable to do so based on good information and comprehensive research:

  • Check the course detail
  • Examine the course entry requirements
  • Read the course module content

Use this invaluable CourseFinder to research CAO & Direct Entry Higher Education courses. Use the filters to narrow down your preferences, or identify new courses, restricted entry courses etc.

College Open Days and Useful Q&A Sessions before Change of Mind Deadline

Many colleges are holding open days and information sessions over the coming days to help students with course choices and change of mind before the deadline. These may be actual open day events taking place on the college campus, or online events via social media or other platforms. It is well worth availing of these valuable opportunities to ask any questions that you may have and clarify and issues.

Watch the CAO Change of Mind video for a step-by-step guide to the process.

Note: You may NOT enter any restricted courses on a Change of Mind.

With the exception of Restricted-Application Courses/Restricted Categories of applicants, you may enter courses which did not appear on your original application.

Exception: you may be permitted to introduce a restricted course where that course shares the exact same assessment procedures with a course you had applied for by 1st February at 17:15 - Always consult with the relevant HEI before introducing such a course.

Restricted applicants

Individual HEIs may impose certain restrictions on Change of Mind by certain categories of applicant i.e. mature applicants, transfer applicants and those presenting entry qualifications other than recent EU school-leaving examinations - always check with individual Admissions Offices before introducing new course choices after 1st February.

Statement of Course Choices

If you make a change of mind, you will receive a revised Statement of Course Choices, confirming your new course choices. Revised statements will NOT be issued before 1st June. If yours does not arrive by 7th July, contact CAO immediately and provide proof of the submission of the Change of Mind.

It is important that your course choices be absolutely correct. Therefore, if you are going to be absent at the time when the revised statement is due, you must arrange for someone to check that it arrives and when it arrives, that the contents are correct and accurately reflect your wishes.

  • Do not wait until August to notify CAO of errors or omissions as it will be too late to do anything about them at that stage.
  • If you applied to CAO using a paper application form, and you have not yet logged into your CAO account online, you can do so by going to `My Application`, click on the forgotten password link and follow the steps to obtain a password. You can then log in with your CAO application number, your date of birth and your new password to use the online Change of Mind facility.
  • A Paper Change of Mind form is available by request.
  • Change of Mind Forms may not be submitted by fax.

First round CAO offers will come out on 20th August 2018.
