Being a self-employed artist is probably the most difficult job really. You need to be highly motivated in the tasks you set for yourself. You need to be able to work on your inspirations and be totally focused on your targets. If your painting does not work first time you need to be able to learn from your experience and use what worked in another piece. Your ability to have confidence in your journey exploring your choice of subjects in paint is important. As regards doing workshops, bringing fun into the entire effort is the most important element to achieve. Your audiences will learn in a more sustainable way and produce drawings to be proud of.

Creative
Creative people are drawn to careers and activities that enable them to take responsibility for the design, layout or sensory impact of something (visual, auditory etc). They may be drawn towards the traditional artistic pursuits such as painting, sculpture, singing, or music. Or they may show more interest in design, such as architecture, animation, or craft areas, such as pottery and ceramics.

Creative people use their personal understanding of people and the world they live in to guide their work. Creative people like to work in unstructured workplaces, enjoy taking risks and prefer a minimum of routine.

Fintru to Hire 605 in Derry and Belfast

Fintru, a financial services company, founded by an entrepreneur from west Cork, is to create 605 new jobs in a £38 million (€43 million ) expansion programme in Northern Ireland.

Darragh McCarthy set up Fintru in 2013, providing resourcing solutions for Tier 1 investment banks from London to New York, Tokyo, Frankfurt and Paris.

The company currently employs 250 staff across its two Belfast city centre offices and in Derry. It now intends to establish a new facility in Derry, which will create an additional 305 jobs, and expand its Belfast operation by recruiting a further 300 people.

McCarthy, a graduate of UCD, previously held a number of senior roles at Morgan Stanley in London, Frankfurt and New York before establishing his business to provide services to assist global investment banks “navigate the ever-increasing regulatory landscape”.

Mr McCarthy is one of 24 finalists selected from across Ireland in this year’s EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

The chief executive of the North’s regional business development agency, Alastair Hamilton, has welcomed the major jobs boost for Northern Ireland.

“The new jobs to be recruited over the next five years will generate over £15million in additional annual salaries for the local economy.

“Invest NI has offered £3.2million of support for the new jobs and the Department for the Economy has offered £2.4million of support through its Assured Skills Programme,” Mr Hamilton said.
