Are you a young woman thinking about doing an apprenticeship but don’t know if it’s for you? If so, DIT are providing a free open day event that you won’t want to miss.
Their “Young Women in Apprenticeships” open day takes place at DIT Linenhall on Thursday 15th March 2018 from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. The day is aimed at encouraging women from areas of economic disadvantage to consider entering the work force as an apprentice. This open day will provide these women with an insight into how the DIT Access Apprenticeship Programme can support them.
According to SOLAS, 52 women were on state-funded craft apprenticeships this year compared to 9,535 men, and so many organisations are pushing to try increase their intake of female apprentices.
On the day, attendees can expect seminars from women currently working in the trades as well as hiring employers in the transport, electrical, engineering and construction sectors. You can also tour DIT classrooms and visit workshops, with DIT staff present to discuss the Access Apprenticeship Programme.
Any woman who is interested in attending the open day event can register here for free.
The DIT Access Apprenticeship Programme is for both men and women aged 16 – 24 and consists of twelve weeks of apprenticeship preparation training. The programme contains instruction on interview skills, CV preparation and even allows participants to earn a Safe Pass certificate. The programme culminates in the final two weeks of work placement. Full details of the programme can be viewed here.
According to Joe Teehan, Coordinator of the pilot programme; “Access to Apprenticeship was designed to remove any perceived barriers that may prevent young women from applying for an apprenticeship”.
Applications are now open for the Access Apprenticeship Programme starting 3rd April 2018. Sign up here.
