Supermacs to Open First Store in Donegal

Over 50 new jobs for Donegal in plaza including fast food chain

Supermacs to Open First Store in Donegal

Supermac's will be opening the doors to its first outlet in Co Donegal in early August.

The fast food store will be located in Donegal town as part of a plaza which will include a service station and convenience store.

It is understood that the businesses on the site will create more than 50 jobs.

Founder and CEO Pat McDonagh said that finding a site and getting planning permission has delayed Supermac's presence in the region.

"We've looked at a couple of difficult sites over the last few years but it's difficult to find the right one," he told Independent.ie.

"But it's not for the want of demand. If I had a €100 for every request for a Supermac's in Donegal, I could easily retire."

McDonagh recognised that there are "a lot of quality competitors" close to the new Donegal store but sees his restaurant as "an additional serving".

"The new plaza is located on the main artery out of the town, where the road runs towards Sligo and the west of Ireland."

Supermac's has another live application for planning permission in Letterkenny and a decision is expected in coming months.

In January, the Irish fast food chain announced that it was going to create 400 jobs with six new restaurants.

Outlets in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, Naas, Co Kildare, and Ballyvollane in Co Cork have already opened while two others in Co Cork - Glanmire and Bandon Road - are expected to officially open in the next few weeks.

McDonagh has also recently expanded his hotel empire with the acquisition of the Athlone Springs Hotel.
