Realists are usually interested in 'things' - such as buildings, mechanics, equipment, tools, electronics etc. Their primary focus is dealing with these - as in building, fixing, operating or designing them. Involvement in these areas leads to high manual skills, or a fine aptitude for practical design - as found in the various forms of engineering.

Realists like to find practical solutions to problems using tools, technology and skilled work. Realists usually prefer to be active in their work environment, often do most of their work alone, and enjoy taking decisive action with a minimum amount of discussion and paperwork.

Irish Rail recruiting Eletrical, Fitting, and Motor Mechanic Apprentices nationwide

Irish Rail has launched a nationwide recruitment campaign for apprentices, including electrical apprentices, fitting apprentices and motor mechanic apprentices. The company has listed a number of locations where apprentices may be located and they are as follows: Athlone, Claremorris, Cork, Dublin, Drogheda, Limerick, Mallow, and Portlaoise.

The transport provider is welcoming applications from male and female candidates who are interested in working hands on with some of the most impressive pieces of machinery and complex technology in public transport.

The "earn and learn" programme offers candidates the opportunity to build up valuable experience while working towards a highly recognised academic qualification. These opportunities with Irish Rail will provide apprentices with the practical, on-the-job experience to build up their technical expertise. The role will equip apprentices with the skills necessary to operate in a safety-conscious environment and will enable them to tackle complex tasks, particularly in the area of signalling and telecommunications systems.

The ideal candidate for this role will prioritise quality, be extremely safety conscious, be able to follow instructions clearly, have a technical aptitude and manual capability, and have the interest and motivation to succeed. Essentials skills for the role include teamwork and communication skills, strong problem-solving and analytical competency, as well as a commitment to organisation and planning.

The educational requirements that must be obtained at the time of application to the Apprenticeship Programme are as follows:

Junior Certificate (Ordinary Level)

Grade C or higher at ordinary level in the Junior Certificate (or equivalent) in one sitting in the following subjects: Irish or English, Mathematics or Science*. Any two other subjects (Grade D or higher on higher level papers is acceptable). *If you have not obtained the required grade in Science, the following is acceptable in: Junior Certificate - Technology, Art, Craft and Design, Technical Graphics, Materials Technology (Wood), Home Economics or Metalwork. Foundation level in the Junior Certificate is not acceptable.

OR

 

Leaving Certificate

Grade D or higher at ordinary Level in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) in one sitting in the following subjects: Irish or English, Mathematics or Science Subject*. Any two other subjects Agricultural Science*, Applied Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physics and Chemistry. *If you have not obtained the required grade in any of the above Science Subjects the following is acceptable at Leaving Certificate Level: Art, Construction Studies, Design and Communication Graphics, Engineering, Home Economics and Technology.

Placements will commence in Autumn 2019 and applicants must be at least 16 years of age on or before the 1st August, 2019. Each candidate will be required to undertake aptitude tests and the results will be used to compile a shortlist for interview purposes.
