Employers recruiting for Logistics Associate Apprentices

A number of companies in the Dublin region are currently seeking apprentices as part of the Logistics Associate Apprenticeship scheme. The Logistics Associate Apprenticeship – a Level 6 Higher Certificate in Logistics – is a two-year programme delivered by TU Dublin City School of Management, Aungier Street. The Logistics Associate involves acquiring the knowledge, skills and competencies to carry out the core tasks/responsibilities within the warehousing, freight forwarding, transport and logistics sector in order to support business needs and develop skills to prepare for future career opportunities. The "earn and learn" programme involves four days a week on-the-job and one day a week off-the-job.

One of the key objectives at Logistic Associate Apprenticeships conception was to take a long-term view of making the freight distribution and logistics sector more competitive for talent, highlight the diverse and exciting career opportunities within the sector and to attract more diversity into the workforce. The apprenticeship hopes to serve the future needs of the sector by providing talent and expertly trained industry professionals, thus addressing the projected skills shortages in the sector. The LAA apprenticeship has seen great success since its launch and in September 2019 60 new apprentices will commence their training in TU Dublin Aungier Street, with another cohort starting in CIT in Cork. At a time when pressure is mounting within the industry on operational costs and the threat of Brexit, in addition to the skills shortage, this story is one where collaboration and commitment can provide proactive solutions that will help "future proof" the sector.

Hamilton Shipping, a company based at Dublin Port, is looking to recruit an apprentice to join their team. The company is one of the leading logistics providers in Ireland and the successful candidate will gain the opportunity to amass experience in a busy Freight Forwarding Office in Dublin Port Centre. Training will be giving in Import and Customs Clearance, Air and Ocean Imports and Exports, Use of Freight Software Packages, and Job Accounting. Working hours will be 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, with one day release to TU Dublin, Aungier Street for training.

Two other Dublin-based companies are also seeking Logistics Associate Apprentices. Hytech Logistics, located in Dublin 11, is seeking applicants with excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and a high level of clerical speed and accuracy. Applicants must be team players who will proactively take on tasks and responsibilities, and a commitment to quality and customer service is essential. The position is available for an immediate start with the successful candidate commencing Year 1 studies in September 2019.

To apply, send your CV with a cover letter to careers@htl.ie

Independent Express Cargo, in Dublin 15, is also recruiting for the Logistic Associate Apprenticeship. The company provides the full range of Transport and Logistic Services including: Transport Service Provision (from cartons to full loads), a hub and spoke National Distribution Centre for palletised freight and cartons, Warehouse Storage, Pick and Pack Service, and Freight Forwarding. The apprenticeship will provide an ideal learning opportunity in these areas for applicants interested in a career within this fast-moving business sector.
