Naturalist

Not surprisingly, some aspect of the natural sciences will run through the Naturalist's interests - from ecological awareness to nutrition and health. People with an interest in horticulture, land usage and farming (including fish) are Naturalists.

Some Naturalists focus on animals rather than plants, and may enjoy working with, training, caring for, or simply herding them. Other Naturalists will prefer working with the end result of nature's produce - the food produced from plants and animals. Naturalists like solving problems with solutions that show some sensitivity to the environmental impact of what they do. They like to see practical results and prefer action to talking and discussing.

CAO Available Places Facility Opens at 12pm Today

See how you can apply to a course with available places through the CAO.

CAO Available Places Facility Opens at 12pm Today

The CAO Available Places facility will open at 12pm today. This facility gives candidates the opportunity to apply to courses where there are places that remain unfilled after all CAO offers have been made. The courses appear on the available place list once the waiting list of CAO applicants who meet the minimum entry requirements for that course has been worked through. Some new courses are introduced after July 1st, when the ‘Change of Mind’ facility closes, and these places too fall into the available places category.

You can access a list of the CAO Available Places Courses here.

How to Apply

  • If you have already made a CAO application, you simply apply through your CAO account using "My Application".
  • If you have not already submitted an application to the CAO, you can apply to Available Place courses specifically through the CAO (Note: A fee of €45 applies).
Mature Applicants
Mature applicants and applicants who have qualifications other than 1985-2019 Irish Leaving Cert and/or 2002-2019 QQI FET/FETAC Level 5/6 must contact the appropriate HEI before completing an application.

Important:
In order to receive an offer for a course on the Available Places list, the candidate must satisfy the minimum entry requirements for that course.

Order of Preference
If you still wish to be considered for any existing courses on your choices list, you must insert all available place courses below those you wish to retain.

Remember that you may only list a maxmimum of ten courses in each of your Level 8 and Level 7/6 course lists. Therefore, if you have ten courses listed and wish to add an available place course, the course at the bottom of your list will disappear.

Available/Vacant place course codes may only be inserted higher in your list of preferences than any offer which you have already received to date.

Acceptance of an Available Place offer supersedes any offer previously issued to a candidate.
