Administrative

Administrative people are interested in work that offers security and a sense of being part of a larger process. They may be at their best operating under supervisors who give clear guidelines, and performing routine tasks in a methodical and reliable way.

They tend to enjoy clerical and most forms of office work, where they perform essential administrative duties. They often form the backbone of large and small organisations alike. They may enjoy being in charge of office filing systems, and using computers and other office equipment to keep things running smoothly. They usually like routine work hours and prefer comfortable indoor workplaces.

Changes to Leaving Cert Appeals

The Leaving Cert Appeals process will be shortened by three weeks

Changes to Leaving Cert Appeals

Next year sees a huge change to the Leaving Cert Results and CAO Offer timelines, with the Leaving Cert Appeals process being shortened by three weeks.

According to the State Examinations Commission, Leaving Cert Results will be issued on Tuesday 13th August, with CAO Round 1 offers arriving on Friday 16th August. This means that for the first time, students will get their Leaving Cert results and their round one offers in the one week.

This will also allow for earlier appeals outcomes, with third-level colleges all in agreement that first year undergraduate courses will not begin before the second week in September and thus ensuring that most students who successfully appeal a Leaving Cert result will not be at a disadvantage by starting their course later than everyone else.

A shorter appeals process will allow students to know the outcomes between September 18-20, rather than October 10.  The planned switch to an online marking system over the next three years could further improve the appeals timeframe.

Regarding this announcement, Minister Mitchell O’Connor added “As well as this, higher education institutions will offer improved supports for students who begin, or change courses, after the start of first year orientation, including academic supports where needed. This will ensure that students are given the best opportunity in their course.”

This new system is hoped to make the appeals process fairer for students, and it is predicted that in the majority of cases, a successful appeal will now result in the student immediately being able to take up their place in the newly offered course.
