Employers have now started recruiting for trainee insurance practitioners, as part of the "earn and learn" Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship. The three-year programme consists of both on-the-job training and off-the-job online study, supported by The Insurance Institute of Ireland, leading to a Level 8 BA (Hons) in Insurance Practice from IT Sligo. For more details about the apprenticeship and on the breakdown of the training over the three years of the programme, click here.
A number of firms are now hiring apprentices at locations across the country. These include OMW Insurance, Property Services Regulatory Authority (PSRA), Aon, Mount Street Group, and Zurich. For details on how to apply, click here.
One of the most attractive aspects of an apprenticeship programme is that you can earn while you gain your qualification to become an Insurance Practitioner. During the programme, you'll earn a salary and your academic training will be government funded. Employers set salaries that are commensurate with the industry rate for the job. A reduced annual apprentice registration fee will apply (€600 annually).
Candidates progressing from the Leaving Certificate will be required to have:
- a minimum of 4 Ds at Ordinary Level and 2 C3s or higher at Higher Level, or 4 06/H7s and 2 H5s or higher.
- Maths (F2/O6/H7) and English or Irish (O6/H7) are also required.
- a minimum of 140 points.
You can check your eligibility for the programme by accessing the complete Entry Requirements here.
