SIMI Announces 150 Apprenticeships Across Motor Industry
Today, at the Intreo Careers Fair at Dublin Castle, The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) announced that 150 new apprentices will be recruited across the Irish motor industry. The apprenticeships consist of a range of roles, including motor mechanics, heavy vehicle mechanics, vehicle body repairers, agricultural mechanics and construction plant fitters.

The apprenticeships will last for four years and apprentices will receive a Level 6 QQI qualification upon successful completion of the programme. Candidates must find an employer who will be able to employ them for the duration of the four-year apprenticeship. Once this has been accomplished, candidates will be able to register with SOLAS, which oversees the training programme and is responsible for awarding the National Craft Certificate.

The news received a hearty welcome from Minister for Employment and Social Affairs, Regina Doherty. She expressed enthusiasm for the diversity of opportunities available for apprentices within the Irish motor industry.

Brian Cooke, SIMI Director General Designate, praised the apprenticeships as a fantastic way for those wishing to pursue a technical career to experience both college and work environments simultaneously.
