Get some experience working with both children and the elderly and feel comfortable working with both. Throughout college you will take part in clinical placements where you will be required to work with various age groups.

Work hard in school and achieve good Leaving Cert. results in order to get the necessary points for entry into the course.

Research the career thoroughly and arrange to speak with a speech and language therapist to discuss the job further.

Realists are usually interested in 'things' - such as buildings, mechanics, equipment, tools, electronics etc. Their primary focus is dealing with these - as in building, fixing, operating or designing them. Involvement in these areas leads to high manual skills, or a fine aptitude for practical design - as found in the various forms of engineering.

Realists like to find practical solutions to problems using tools, technology and skilled work. Realists usually prefer to be active in their work environment, often do most of their work alone, and enjoy taking decisive action with a minimum amount of discussion and paperwork.

A dental nurse's main duties include infection control, chair-side assistance, preparation and maintenance of the dental surgery, and patient care.  
 
While a patient is being treated the dental nurse passes materials and instruments to the dentist, as they are required. They also prepare fillings and dressings if they are needed and process any X-rays that are taken.  
 
They sterilise instruments and are responsible for making sure that a constant supply of clean instruments are available. They are also responsible for the general hygiene of the surgery.  
 
General administrative and office work, such as filing, is also part of their remit.
