A common misconception about a career in tax is that it is just about numbers, however, tax law has a strong basis in legislation and case law. Therefore, it is really suitable for graduates from a legal background, or for qualified solicitors and barristers.

Enterprising
Enterprising people like situations that involve using resources for personal or corporate economic gain. Such people may have an opportunistic frame of mind, and like commerce, trade and making deals. Some are drawn to sales and marketing occupations. Many will eventually end up owning their own business, or managing a section in larger organisations. They tend to be very goal-oriented, and work best when focused on a target. He completed the IATI accounting technician course and following a 2 year stint in the banking sector where he completed the Financial Services exams and the Investment Advisor exams through the Institute of Bankers in Ireland he returned to the accountancy world and completed a Chartered Accountancy Contract.

Chartered Accountant

Ruth works as a Chartered Accountant and has recently been made a Partner with Bluett Conran & Co. She completed a primary degree in European Business and Languages at the National College of Ireland, and went on th do a Post Graduate diploma in Accounting in DIT. She then chose to study with the Chartered Accountants Ireland to become a Chartered Accountant.

Justine is from New Zealand and completed her secondary education and primary degree there. She moved to London and worked in the Banking sector for a while. She then studied to become a Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA), and after moving to Dublin took up a position in the ESB.

There are no specific qualifications needed for the job of Accounts Assistant, although requirements will vary depending on the size of the company and nature of the business. In smaller organisations employers will typically provide on-the-job training.

Employers will generally expect prospective employees to demonstrate quick thinking and a logical mind and look for a good standard of Second level subjects such as Maths, Accountancy, Business and English.

Larger, more competitive firms may also want to see an Entry Level qualification in accounting or a related subject. A qualification in bookkeeping or accounts preparation will act as a good grounding for the job and will usually enable accounts assistants to progress to higher salry levels. Training towards relevant qualifications offered by many employers through the job.

Qualifications related to the job of accounts assistant include Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) as well as the many Level 5 and Level 6 Business Administration, book-keeping, finance.
