They may be atrracted to the traditional artistic pursuits such as painting, sculpture, singing, or music. Or they may show more interest in design activities, such as architecture, animation, or craft areas, such as pottery and ceramics.

Creative people use their personal understanding of people and the world they live in to guide their work. Creative people like to work in unstructured workplaces, enjoy taking risks and prefer a minimum of routine.

Entry Requirements - Teacher - Nursery/Playgroup

The following are the official recommendations in relation to the necessary qualification requirements for working in a child care service:

  • The Child Care Regulations 2006 (Pre-school Services, No.2) require that a minimum of 50% of staff in a service have a qualification appropriate to the care and development of children.
  • The Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme (Free Pre-school Year) states that from June 2012 the Play Leader in each room of a service must have a minimum qualification of a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Childcare.
  • Employers generally look for a minimum of QQI Level 5 or equivalent, relevant to the specific job role and responsibilities.

From September 2015 all staff in early years services will need to have a full Level 5 qualification and all Preschool (ECCE) Room Leaders will need a full Level 6 qualification.
