The Investigative person will usually find a particular area of science to be of interest. They are inclined toward intellectual and analytical activities and enjoy observation and theory. They may prefer thought to action, and enjoy the challenge of solving problems with sophiscticated technology. These types prefer mentally stimulating environments and often pay close attention to developments in their chosen field.

Certificate in Preparatory Studies for Higher Education (commonly known at the Access Course)

There may students on your radar that aren’t just quite ready for a full-time third level programme. The Certificate in Preparatory for Higher Education is open to current LCA students who have 160 credits; school leavers between the ages of 17-22 years who have been out of school at least 2 years and who meet the socio-economic and academic criteria as set down by the institution; or adult students 23 years of age or over on 1st January of the year of application to the access course.

The skills, knowledge and competence developed by the students during this course should ensure a reasonable prospect of success in subsequent studies. On completion of this programme the graduate will have a good introductory knowledge of Maths, Communications, Learning Skills, Information Technology and a minimum of two of the following: Computing, Science or Business.

The learner will have developed confidence in written and verbal communication skills that will be of lifelong benefit. For more information on this programme click here.
