Social

The Social person's interests focus on interacting with the people in their environment. In all cases, the Social person enjoys the personal contact with other people in preference to the impersonal dealings with things, data and ideas found in other groups.

Many will seek out positions where there is direct contact with the public in some advisory role, whether a receptionist or a counsellor. Social people are motivated by an interest in different types of people and like diversity in their work environments. Many are drawn towards careers in the caring professions and social welfare area, whilst others prefer teaching and other 'informing' roles.

Security Studies

Crumlin College is revamping its Security Studies programme for the 2017/2018 academic year. Sports Stadium Stewardship is being added to the course in response to the increased demand for qualified staff to provide security at sporting events. All modules on the course are awarded at QQI Level 5. Security Studies continues to be a course that offers strong links to employment with students progressing onto careers in retail security and security management. All students who successfully achieve an award are eligible for full membership of the Security Institute of Ireland.

Information Technology Courses

Crumlin College offers a number of exciting courses suitable to students hoping to progress to further study and employment in the IT sector:

Software Design and Development (QQI Level 5):

This course prepares students for a career in software development. Essentially the course is all about designing, developing and maintaining software. Possible progression routes include employment in the Gaming and App development industry. The modules offered are:  Web Authoring, Software Architecture, Fundamentals of Object Oriented Programming, Maths for IT, Database Methods, Programming and Design Principles, Communications.

Computer Network and Support Technician (QQI Level 5)

This course is designed for students who hope to progress into the area of implementation of PC systems and network support. Candidates who successfully complete the course can pursue employment as Computer and Network Support Technicians. The modules offered are: Networking Essentials, Computer Systems Hardware, Programming and Design Principles, Operating Systems, ICT Security Policy and Management, Maths for IT, Communications.

IT Digital Skills (QQI Level 5)

This is a general course that opens opportunities to students for progression to Further Education or employment in a range of IT areas. The modules offered are: Spreadsheet Methods, The Internet, Database Methods, Programming and Design Principles, Web Authoring, Information and Communication Systems, Communications.
