Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.

I would strongly recommend a career in tax to any students who are considering it. Tax professionals are in high demand from employers and can add real value to any business. It is a challenging and rewarding career which can place you at the heart of business decision making. It can also be an excellent springboard to other careers in finance.

Just recently a new Chief Financial Officer was appointed to Irish Distillers who was formerly the Pernod Ricard Group tax director! Also do your research about the AITI Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification – from my own experience, the course is very practical and relevant to my day to day job. It provides a structured framework for achieving the knowledge of tax law and skills required to be an AITI Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA).

Creative?
Creative
Creative people are drawn to careers and activities that enable them to take responsibility for the design, layout or sensory impact of something (visual, auditory etc). They may be drawn towards the traditional artistic pursuits such as painting, sculpture, singing, or music. Or they may show more interest in design, such as architecture, animation, or craft areas, such as pottery and ceramics.

Creative people use their personal understanding of people and the world they live in to guide their work. Creative people like to work in unstructured workplaces, enjoy taking risks and prefer a minimum of routine.

Student Experiences at the University of Limerick

The years students spend in college anticipate to be some of the best years of their lives. Working hard every day to achieve a quality degree is important however the University of Limerick recognises the need for students to have an outlet by which they can meet new people, experience new things and of course, have fun! In the last month alone two large events have taken place at the University aiming to provide a well-rounded and enlightening student experience.

SoUL Arts Festival

The soUL Arts Festival is a fun and engaging event organised by the Societies of UL and the UL Arts office. The week-long festival is filled with activities to suit every student. From the comedy night organised by the Comedy Society to the Law Societies assassin game, the week enables students to gain knowledge on the large number of societies offered by the University and gain insights into the activities of the society itself.  Why not take a look at the full week’s itinerary on the SoUL Arts facebook page? https://www.facebook.com/SOULARTSFEST/

ULSU Halloween Ball 2017

This year the students union organised a Halloween event for students. The ULSU Halloween Ball took place on Halloween night and featured acts including Sean Kingston and Chasing Abbey.

Feature USP

The University of Limerick proudly offers the largest international exchange programme in Ireland. The International Education Division takes responsibility for coordinating all international programmes including, study abroad, Erasmus and international exchange. The Erasmus programme has exchange agreements with over 300 higher education institutions in Europe.  Outside of Europe students have the ability to travel to institutions in locations such as China, Canada, Australia and the USA. There are many advantages in pursuing education in a University outside of Ireland academic such as the opportunity to improve language competence, gain confidence and independence and learn to be more open-minded and objective.
