DkIT signs Memorandum of Understanding with Sport Ireland Coaching
The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is to facilitate the development of closer cooperation between the Dundalk Institute of Technology, specifically the BA and BA (Hons) in Sports Exercise & Enterprise programme, based in the School of Business and Humanities and Sport Ireland Coaching. This cooperation will cover the normal educational activities of both organisations.
This MOU is designed to enable both organisations to promote suitable cooperative activities. It is designed to enable significant post holders within each organisation to exchange relevant information with their colleagues and to build strong trustful relationships.
This MOU is designed to further the strategic aims of both organisations within the context of mutual respect and support. Each organisation respects the academic standards of the other and will act to support and enhance those standards in all cooperative activities.
How did the relationship with Sport Ireland/Coaching Ireland come about?
We have had a strong working relationship with Sport Ireland since the inception of this programme in 2013 and its precursor the BA (Hons) in Community Sport Leadership since 2002. Students from these programmes completed a number of sports coaching pedagogy modules which align with Sport Ireland Coaching.
This more formalised relationship recognises the synergy between a number of modules that we deliver on the BA and BA (Hons) in Sport, Exercise & Enterprise and the Coaching Children Course delivered by Sport Ireland Coaching. Along with this we have consulted and worked with Sport Ireland Coaching to ensure that our modules are fit for purpose in light of the forthcoming programmatic review.
What will this mean for DkIT students?
Students will have the opportunity to gain accreditation for Coaching Children along with academic credits from having successfully completed their Developing Physical Literacy module in year 1 of the programme. Students will have the opportunity to also gain accreditation on the iCoachKids MOOC through the successful completion of our year 2 module Physical activity in adolescence.
