What are your interests?

Not surprisingly, some aspect of the natural sciences will run through the Naturalist's interests - from ecological awareness to nutrition and health. People with an interest in horticulture, land usage and farming (including fish) are Naturalists.

Some Naturalists focus on animals rather than plants, and may enjoy working with, training, caring for, or simply herding them. Other Naturalists will prefer working with the end result of nature's produce - the food produced from plants and animals. Naturalists like solving problems with solutions that show some sensitivity to the environmental impact of what they do. They like to see practical results and prefer action to talking and discussing.

CCFE The Bridge to Your Future

Posted on August 15, 2019

CCFE is Mayo’s premier provider of Further Education Courses in the West of Ireland. It is strategically located in Newtown, Castlebar; close to all local amenities of the town and transport services. The college offers a wide range of Level 5 and Level 6 QQI courses to meet the needs of the school leaver and also the adult learner. CCFE is there for everyone; be it starting out on a career, coming back to re-skill or up-skill or pursue a Pre-University Option. Courses are varied and include for example Business & Administration, Healthcare Studies, Social Studies, IT/Computing and Design, Sports, Music and Nursing Studies.

Graduates of CCFE have found employment in such fields as childcare, business administration, healthcare, IT or in areas related to their qualifications and training. Graduates can also be found in Third Level Colleges throughout Ireland and abroad.

The staff at CCFE are dedicated and highly qualified; it is a friendly and welcoming environment. College staff have industry experience in a number of interesting areas which excels the level of course delivery to our learners. There is a great relationship built up with the students which makes for a positive approach to learning. CCFE takes pride in the fact that we promote a positive, student-centred learning environment such that every learner is given the best opportunity to reach their full potential.

The college is constantly developing and strengthening links with employers and Third Level Institutions. We recently forged a new partnership with St. Angela’s College, Sligo/NUI Galway via the Access to Post Primary Teaching Project (Home Economics with another subject option) and Galway Mayo IT via a Memorandum of Understanding (this allows advanced progression to certain courses in GMIT for our Level 6 graduates). We are currently in negotiations for similar agreements with other Higher Education Institutions for all programmes. We think these links are extremely important for employer engagement and to make sure the courses we offer are relevant to what is happening in the ever changing Irish Economy and Third Level requirement.

An exciting redevelopment of the Music programme allows students to study Music Technology, as well, as take part in the “Bridge of Song” where new music talent is showcased once a month in The Bridge Street venue Castlebar. The Sports Studies & Exercise’ Programme introduced a number of years ago is going from strength to strength. ‘Cloud’ computing and ‘Mobile Technologies’ have been added to existing Information Technology options. A programme in Level 6 Systems & Networks has been a great success for our IT/Computing and Design Department over the last year.

Our courses improve year on year and so do our facilities. We have a number of high-spec computer labs, fully equipped nursing facility, a recording studio and the latest facility our college has to offer is our newly equipped Multimedia suite which gives our students the opportunity to work on the most recent Apple Mac devices and the most up-to-date software available for 2019. Students attending our courses are offered the Office 365 Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud apps during the course of the year.

Students at Castlebar College of Further Education are encouraged to take part in the many activities in the College such as the Student Council, College Awareness Week and various other events throughout the year.
