Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.
We asked Niall O'Neill from Forestry Careers Ireland to give some advice for people considering this job:
|That it requires commitment, you have to be willing to take calls and work outside of designated hours. If you think that you have an interest in forestry and like the prospects of having a job that is diverse, rewarding and different from the regular mould of a career – go for it!!|

Postgraduate courses allow learners to develop their knowledge of a subject to the maximum levels possible, or develop specific skills and expertise in addition to their undergraduate area of study.
Masters degrees and post-graduate diplomas are awarded at Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications. Master degrees in Ireland typically last one (taught courses) or two (research based) years, while Postgraduate diplomas are typically one year.
Doctoral and higher doctorate awards are awarded at Level 10 on the NFQ, and may last several years.
Postgraduate awards are much sought after in the workplace, as candidates have typically developed advanced analytical and systems skills in their chosen career area. Occupations often involve coordinating, training, supervising, or managing the activities of others to accomplish goals. Examples include librarians, lawyers, many medical specialists, wildlife biologists, school psychologists, treasurers, and most scientists.
