Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.
We asked Lisa Kelly from Health Service Executive to give some advice for people considering this job:
Get some experience working with both children and the elderly and feel comfortable working with both. Throughout college you will take part in clinical placements where you will be required to work with various age groups.
Work hard in school and achieve good Leaving Cert. results in order to get the necessary points for entry into the course.
Research the career thoroughly and arrange to speak with a speech and language therapist to discuss the job further.

Undergraduate awards typically reflect three to five years of study after secondary school and include Ordinary (Level 7) and Honours Bachelor Degrees and Higher Diplomas (Level 8's).
Undergraduate awards may be achieved directly or through a series of progression steps. Learners may choose to progress upwards from a Level 5 to a Level 6, Level 7 and finally a Level 8.
Undergraduate awards are awarded by the HETAC or Higher Education Institutes.
3rd level Graduates are qualified for a wide range of occupations, and their education prepares them for roles involving specific skills, and for coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, sales managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, environmental engineers, criminal investigators, and financial analysts.
Electronic engineering is used for the collection, processing and transmission of information.
The course involves theory, practice, and project work. The technical subjects are supported by a range of professional development modules which work on the individual’s ability to communicate, work in teams and understand business concepts. The programme is supported by well-equipped laboratories and workshops and department staff are drawn from a wide range of electronic engineering technologies.

A Electronics Engineer graduate is well trained in logic, problem solving, teamwork and self motivated learning. There is no limit or boundary on the sort of job a person with this skillset could take on. Within the field of engineering, they will be equipped with knowledge and application experience to walk into any industry and be in familiar surroundings. The Department has always and continues to have a significant interaction with industry. This occurs through programme validation, external examiners and collaborations in applications for research funding.
