Undergraduate awards typically reflect three to five years of study after secondary school and include Ordinary (Level 7) and Honours Bachelor Degrees and Higher Diplomas (Level 8's).
Undergraduate awards may be achieved directly or through a series of progression steps. Learners may choose to progress upwards from a Level 5 to a Level 6, Level 7 and finally a Level 8.
Undergraduate awards are awarded by the HETAC or Higher Education Institutes.
3rd level Graduates are qualified for a wide range of occupations, and their education prepares them for roles involving specific skills, and for coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, sales managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, environmental engineers, criminal investigators, and financial analysts.
Chinese Studies combines the study of Chinese language with various disciplines to develop your interest in and knowledge of the history, culture, economy, politics, religion and philosophy of China. It will provide you with exciting opportunities in study, research and careers. Chinese Studies is available as a subject through the Arts and Arts (International) programmes. In the BA International Degree, you study the language more intensely through the option of spending Year 3 at one of our partner universities in China.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
converse at an intermediate level on topics relating to day-to-day life in Mandarin Chinese
read and write in Chinese characters with a vocabulary of 1,500 words
identify the major periods and dynasties in Chinese history and recognise/name the major geographic features, historical figures, and ethnic groups of China
identify the major issues affecting contemporary Chinese society and explain their significance
identify major social theories and paradigms and apply these social theories and concepts to particular socioeconomic and political issues
analyse the role of the Chinese Communist Party in China’s current political and economic order
assess critically the impact of social transformation since the market reform in 1978 on the opportunity structures of different social and ethnic groups
