Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.
We asked Darragh Little from Forestry Careers Ireland to give some advice for people considering this job:
|Forestry is not just about planting and harvesting, it provides skillsets that can be used in many careers. Forestry is about people as every forest is owned by someone and you must be able to communicate your vision for their forest. It is about learning. You will never stop learning in this career and that makes it cool. Finally you can go anywhere on the planet with the skills you will learn. Forestry is virtually the same everywhere – just different trees. I have worked in several countries around the world and used the skills I learned in Ireland to bring value.|

Undergraduate awards typically reflect three to five years of study after secondary school and include Ordinary (Level 7) and Honours Bachelor Degrees and Higher Diplomas (Level 8's).
Undergraduate awards may be achieved directly or through a series of progression steps. Learners may choose to progress upwards from a Level 5 to a Level 6, Level 7 and finally a Level 8.
Undergraduate awards are awarded by the QQI, HEA or Higher Education Institutes.
3rd level Graduates are qualified for a wide range of occupations, and their education prepares them for roles involving specific skills, and for coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, sales managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, environmental engineers, criminal investigators, and financial analysts.
More than any other discipline, electronic engineers have been at the heart of generating the technology of our modern society. However, there are still major global problems to be solved, and you can be sure that because of their knowledge and skills, electronic engineers will be at the forefront in creating solutions.
Whether it is problems of clean water, sufficient energy, global warming or better global nutrition and health, electronic engineers will be developing solutions that will complement and coordinate the activities of other disciplines.
Students have a choice of four Majors including : Systems and Devices, High Speed Communication, Digital Interaction, the Internet of Things and a research project in their chosen field in Fourth Year. The course also includes a strong software and programming theme.

A six month (INTRA) paid engineering internship is part of the third year and can be spent at home or abroad.
Graduates enter careers as Research and Development Engineers, Design Engineer, Software Engineer in the areas of Electronics, Smart Economy, Sustainable Energy, Communication and the Health Sector.
