We asked Lydia Peppard from Health Service Executive to give some advice for people considering this job:
|The advise that I would give to someone considering this job is to do their Leaving Cert and do the Transition year as this would give an opportunity to get some job experience or do some voluntary work within the community.
Do a Level 5 FETAC health related course. Certificates at this level are typically awarded for two years of full-time study after the leaving certificate or equivalent. Skills developed are mostly technical and vocationally specific, i.e. are focused on a specific career sector. National apprenticeships programmes are included in this level.
Awards at this level recognised by the National Framework of Qualifications may lead to 3rd level progression opportunities.
Qualifications at this level prepare for occupations that involve using the skills and knowledge learned alongside existing workers in 'real world' environments. Examples include restaurant managers, electricians, engineering technicians, legal secretaries, hairdressers, and web developers.
This course introduces the many aspects that comprise a business, enterprise, or other organisations. The programme also provides an understanding of how management in business works.
