Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.
We asked Kevin Keary from EU Careers to give some advice for people considering this job:
|Be proactive and look for the areas that interest you whether it’s the Environment or Human Rights and find MEP’s or interest groups that specialise in those interests and take the initiative to send them your CV.
Having a European language would help you considerably in this career. Irish should also not be ruled out as an option as this is considered as a second language.

Undergraduate awards typically reflect three to five years of study after secondary school and include Ordinary (Level 7) and Honours Bachelor Degrees and Higher Diplomas (Level 8's).
Undergraduate awards may be achieved directly or through a series of progression steps. Learners may choose to progress upwards from a Level 5 to a Level 6, Level 7 and finally a Level 8.
Undergraduate awards are awarded by the HETAC or Higher Education Institutes.
3rd level Graduates are qualified for a wide range of occupations, and their education prepares them for roles involving specific skills, and for coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, sales managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, environmental engineers, criminal investigators, and financial analysts.
This degree programme provides students with a broad range of skills relating to all aspects of the design of electronic systems and devices. It combines coursework in different aspects of electrical and electronic engineering, as well as individual and group project work, where students design and build innovative electronic systems.
It incorporates the design and development of devices, circuits and systems that are used in a wide range of high-tech products and so it will appeal to students who like to understand how technology works, and who have an interest in electrical or electronic circuits. Students who enjoy science, and particularly physics, are usually attracted to it.
Students will undertake a five-month (April–August) off-campus work placement following completion of their third year of study.

These include electronic circuit and system design; power electronics; medical electronics; healthcare; computer programming; telecommunications; automotive electronics; industrial & process automation; electrical power systems; renewable energy; consumer electronics; and broadcasting.
