Students will develop an in-depth understanding of the concepts, theories and models pertaining to the study of game design and the manner in which they can be applied to both entertainment and non-entertainment uses.
They will have a good understanding of game programming, production, audio design and testing. They will have an ability to analyse and determine the appropriate approach to game design, mechanics, controls and the context within which they are used. They will employ advanced skills from specialist areas to achieve goals, including the design and implementation of complex game systems, the documentation of the design process and the testing and deployment of the resulting system. They will have an ability to apply game design techniques to solving real world problems.
Students will make and release to the public at least 10 games and design hundreds more throughout the course of the programme from board games to mobile games to desktop games will also have the opportunity to undertake a work placement or service learning and civic engagement.

The Student - Career Interests
This course is typically suited for people with the following Career Interests. If these interests do not describe you, this course may prepare you for work you may not find satisfying.
The Investigative person will usually find a particular area of science to be of interest. They are inclined toward intellectual and analytical activities and enjoy observation and theory. They may prefer thought to action, and enjoy the challenge of solving problems with sophiscticated technology. These types prefer mentally stimulating environments and often pay close attention to developments in their chosen field.
Creative people are drawn to careers and activities that enable them to take responsibility for the design, layout or sensory impact of something (visual, auditory etc). They may be atrracted to the traditional artistic pursuits such as painting, sculpture, singing, or music. Or they may show more interest in design activities, such as architecture, animation, or craft areas, such as pottery and ceramics.
Creative people use their personal understanding of people and the world they live in to guide their work. Creative people like to work in unstructured workplaces, enjoy taking risks and prefer a minimum of routine.
Graduates from this programme can expect to follow a number of career paths. Many will want to innovate in the games industry, release their own games and setup a studio. Our business modules in 4th year facilitate that. Others will be very employable within the existing games industry as game designers, programmers and testers. As games are prolific in areas like education and marketing, graduates could gain employment in these industries as game designers.
