Realist

Realists are usually interested in 'things' - such as buildings, mechanics, equipment, tools, electronics etc. Their primary focus is dealing with these - as in building, fixing, operating or designing them. Involvement in these areas leads to high manual skills, or a fine aptitude for practical design - as found in the various forms of engineering.

Realists like to find practical solutions to problems using tools, technology and skilled work. Realists usually prefer to be active in their work environment, often do most of their work alone, and enjoy taking decisive action with a minimum amount of discussion and paperwork.

The first year of this course is identical to the first year on CW207 and CW206, which allows for switching between them. The course takes a very hands-on and practical approach to learning in this common first year. Overall, the programme includes subjects such as maths, database management, programming, network systems, administration, technical sales, training and support, and multimedia systems.Students can opt-out after two years with a Higher Certificate, or proceed to a follow-on degree.

Graduates of this programme will be qualified to work across the IT spectrum in any industry sector. Types of roles available to graduates include systems administrator for Windows and Linux operating systems, database design and management, website design and development, design and administration of networked systems including design and configuration of services for LANs (Local Area networks) and Wans (Wide Area networks). Graduates have taken up such roles as Software Engineer at IBM; Graduate SAP Developer at Glanbia; Technical Support Agent at Access Control Technology, IT Engineer at Tierney’s IT Solutions.
