Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.

Do your homework, ask about it - there is lots of infomation out there.  You need to be person centred, social, not afraid to mix and to have an understanding of disability or at least be prepared to learn about it.

People with an Intellectual Disability  ARE NOT SICK , but they can get sick like everyone else and sometimes I feel people outside don't fully understand this. They don't just need Gods help. They need the help of qualified people that want to understand them so that their needs are met and they have chance to enjoy their life as much as is possible.

Administrative?
Administrative
Administrative people are interested in work that offers security and a sense of being part of a larger process. They may be at their best operating under supervisors who give clear guidelines, and performing routine tasks in a methodical and reliable way.

They tend to enjoy clerical and most forms of office work, where they perform essential administrative duties. They often form the backbone of large and small organisations alike. They may enjoy being in charge of office filing systems, and using computers and other office equipment to keep things running smoothly. They usually like routine work hours and prefer comfortable indoor workplaces.

Guidance Professionals

Welcome to the Guidance Professionals area of the CareersPortal website.

CareersPortal.ie has been working closely with the guidance community providing web-based tools, resources and training since 2008. Responding to the needs of guidance counsellors working in both second-level and adult guidance is very important to us.

REACH+ is a senior cycle guidance programme for students and second-level guidance counsellors and MyFuture+ is our newly launched on-line career management resource for adult guidance professionals to support their clients and learners.

This area provides useful career resources, information and self-assessment tools for use in guidance practice. The menu on the left contains specific information for guidance counsellors working in 2nd level, further and higher education and private practice.

Career guidance tools and resources relevant to all guidance providers are located at the top of the page as shortcut icons including: our popular career Interest Profiler and other features to create a unique and personalised on-line career file. Additional icons will bring you directly to our new CourseFinder, 33 Sectors or industry profiles, our Occupational database that profiles nearly 1,000 jobs and live job search features, and a new section dedicated to Apprenticeships

CareersPortal partners with both public and private organisations to bring you the most up-to-date career and labour market information. Our unique career Videos allow students and jobseekers listen to people's experiences of working in Ireland and understand how they progressed into their job in terms of their qualifications, skills and experience.

The About Us section provides an overview of all our services and bespoke training programmes and contact details for any questions or queries that you might have.
