Junior Cycle - Classical Studies

Subject Group: Humanities
These subjects explore the ways in which humans live and communicate in the world. Human life is examined by looking at our past, our present and into our future. These subjects help people to express themselves clearly and develop their reasoning ability.

Brief Description:

In Classical Studies, you will study the classical civilisations of Ancient Greece and Rome, which continue to inspire and stimulate today's generation as they have every generation since classical times. You will learn how they continue to help to shape the Ireland you live in today.

How will Classical Studies be useful to me?

Classical Studies will be useful to you in:

  • helping you solve problems and thinking for yourself when working with others
  • giving you a broader understanding of Europe and Ireland
  • expanding your vocabulary and general knowledge.

You can also continue studying Classical Studies at third level when you leave school.

Note: From September 2017, first year students will take a combined single subject called Classics, in place of the current subjects of Latin, Ancient Greek and Classical Studies.
