The Linguistic's interests are usually focused on ideas and information exchange. They tend to like reading a lot, and enjoy discussion about what has been said. Some will want to write about their own ideas and may follow a path towards journalism, story writing or editing. Others will develop skills in other languages, perhaps finding work as a translator or interpreter. Most Linguistic types will enjoy the opportunity to teach or instruct people in a topic they are interested in.

Teaching jobs exist for Irish speakers in mainstream primary and secondary schools, as well as in Irish-medium and Gaeltacht schools throughout Ireland, in addition to Gaelscoileanna, Gaelcholáistí and schools located in Gaeltacht areas.

There are abundant opportunities for qualified teachers with a high level of Irish. Having a high standard of spoken Irish has become more important than ever at second level since the oral Irish Leaving Certificate exam now accounts for 40 percent of the final grade.

Subject teachers with Irish language skills are in demand too, particularly for the maths and science.

A screen reading system for the Irish language is one such product.

Until recently, there were no means of converting Irish text into speech. The Phonetics and Speech Laboratory in Trinity College Dublin has now developed an Irish language speech synthesis system. You can try it out at http://www.abair.tcd.ie/ (it gives output in any of three regional dialects).
