Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.
We asked Aoife Lyons from Civil and Public Service Jobs to give some advice for people considering this job:
|Psychology is a very broad area and I would encourage people to reflect on the field that would suit them best. If you study pharmacy, you will graduate as a pharmacist. It is different in psychology. The role of a Clinical Psychologist differs significantly from the role of an Educational Psychologist, a Forensic Psychologist or a Sports Psychologist. A post graduate qualification will be required to practice in any of these fields. Regardless of the area of psychology that interests you, respect for and an interest in people is a key value that is required. Once you have qualifications, networks and professional bodies are a good way to meet prospective employers.|

Why Join Our Team?
The key to our business is enhancing the customer experience and that is driven by the enthusiasm and professionalism of our most valuable resource: our 2,000 employees. It is no coincidence that Topaz has been recognised as a Great Place to Work in Ireland for the past 10 years, receiving the special recognition ‘Laureate Award’ this year for our 10th consecutive accolade.
Topaz has also been recognised as a Great Place to Work in Europe (amongst over 2,000 companies representing 1.4m employees) on three separate occasions, and is the only fuels and convenience retailer on the Europe-wide list. This is due in part to how we treat our employees, with a fulfilling, rewarding and fun atmosphere. We firmly believe every team member is integral to our deliverance of continued and excellent customer service. As a result, we focus a lot of our attention on motivating and developing our employees so they excel in their roles.
Through training and development, on-the-job learning, coaching and feedback, we make sure that everyone who works here has the resources they need to build their careers. We also realise that all work and no play makes Topaz a dull company, so we have some fun along the way too. Our employees are our greatest resource, and partnership with them is vital to our ongoing success.
When you work with Topaz, how far you go is up to you. Many of our management team in Topaz started off on the shop floor.
Pay and Reward
We offer competitive pay, pensions, healthcare and additional holidays. Our rewards programmes are regularly benchmarked against a select peer group of our major competitors in the local market.
Topaz Employee Benefits
Open and Inclusive
We are committed to providing an inclusive working environment. As such, we employ a diverse workforce from differing nationalities, ages and backgrounds. With strict employment policies and practices to protect against discrimination, we ensure equal opportunities and fair treatment for all our employees.
