If you are unsure I would recommend coming to an open day in the college and if possible also doing the Garda Reserve. It gives the best insight imaginable into the work of Gardaí.

Administrative people are interested in work that offers security and a sense of being part of a larger process. They may be at their best operating under supervisors who give clear guidelines, and performing routine tasks in a methodical and reliable way.

They tend to enjoy clerical and most forms of office work, where they perform essential administrative duties. They often form the backbone of large and small organisations alike. They may enjoy being in charge of office filing systems, and using computers and other office equipment to keep things running smoothly. They usually like routine work hours and prefer comfortable indoor workplaces.

Since its foundation in 1955, St. Michael’s House has grown to become one of Ireland’s largest providers of community-based services for people with an intellectual disability and their families. A voluntary body, St. Michael’s House offers services to over 1,712 children and adults through 170 centres across Dublin City and County.  Services offered include; clinical supports, early intervention, education, vocational training, employment, residential, respite, specialist Alzheimer’s supports as well as social and recreational services.

With over 170 locations in the greater Dublin area, St. Michaels House has established itself as a leader in the provision of community based services to children and adults with an intellectual disability and their families.

We provide a range of services ; residential ,respite educational and social. In order to continue to grow we need to expend our team and require staff that are dedicated to improving the lives of people with intellectual disabilities”

The support and services offered by St. Michael’s House are based on the belief that people with an intellectual disability have equal rights, including equality of opportunities, full participation as equal members of society and the right to be treated with the same respect and dignity as other members of society. All service users have an Individual Plan based on the goals identified by them and their family, which is used as a basis for the supports and services that they receive.

Regulation of residential services for children and adults with intellectual disability came in to force on 1st November 2013. St. Michael's House registered 77 designated centres with HIQA.

A change management plan was designed and implemented to support designated centres to have the required documentation , polices and procedures and evidence in place as required by the regulations .

We currently employ 1,329 staff representing 70 different grades and professions. Our emphasis on innovation and our commitment to developing and improving existing services to meet the changing needs of service users means that each employee is a hands-on contributor who plays a crucial part in realising our philosophy.

As we grow and expand, we continue to look for staff that share our commitment to supporting people with an intellectual disability to reach their full potential. In return, through a progressive training programme and our Open Training College, we offer each employee the opportunity to grow professionally, acquire experience and carve out a real career working with people with an intellectual disability. The Open Training College provides education and learning opportunities to people working in the non-profit and voluntary sectors. Courses are offered up to honors degree level in management, social studies, and support employment as well as a wide range of professional development programmes. The Research Department supports staff across the organisation to engage in service based research and evidence based service development . The Department also presents completed research projects to the wider St. Michael's House staff group through a quarterly Research Forum.

The ongoing Research and Teaching Partnership that St. Michael's House and UCD established in 2009 continues to develop.
