Linguistic

The Linguistic's interests are usually focused on ideas and information exchange. They tend to like reading a lot, and enjoy discussion about what has been said. Some will want to write about their own ideas and may follow a path towards journalism, story writing or editing. Others will develop skills in other languages, perhaps finding work as a translator or interpreter. Labour Market Information

Approximately 177,000 persons were employed in Tourism and Hospitality at the midpoint of 2018, representing 8.0% of the national workforce. The accommodation and food services sector, who's fortunes are tightly linked to Tourism and Hospitality, has experienced significant growth in recent years.

There is a lot of movement between jobs in the sector, shown by figures from 2017 finding that 50,000 of those employed in the sector had been recently hired. The strongest rate of employment growth in the sector was observed for waiters & waitresses (9.2%) during the last 5 years.

The strength of the sector is shown by many developments and accomplishments, including

  • There are now 16 Michelin Star restaurants in Ireland, a higher number than ever before.
  • Later this year the 233 million Center Parcs holiday resort will open in Longford.
  • Commis Chef and Chef de Partie Apprenticeship Programmes have been developed to help meet ballooning demand for qualified staff in the restaurant trade. there continues to be a shortage of Executive chefs, Head chefs, Sous chefs and Chefs de partie.
